High GPU load on YT and Twitch - Brave Community

Q: Does brave use a lot of GPU?

I have been watching it since yesterday, whether or not I click on mirandus ads, so long as they appear on a tab, BRAVE start using a great amount of cpu. I suppose that the video is getting decoded by the GPU. If it is a High Resolution/High Framerate video it may use quite a bit of GPU power. It's handling the video stuff through the gpu.

Q: Does brave use a dgpu?

I already changed the global settings to integrated graphics and Brave is still using the dGPU . You should be able to assign it to the integrated gpu in the nvidia control panel. I have the same issue. I've even set the .exe to only use the iGPU. But what's strange is that it only does it on ac power. If it's on battery power it doesn't do it.

Some instances Brave used more CPU, few seconds later Chrome would use more CPU. Video decoding can be taxing on some systems than others (Depending on the GPU/CPU), including users with video playback issues on youtube. This is tested with a clean profile (Chrome Left, Brave Right), no extensions installed.

Q: Why does Twitch lag?

As the other person said, you could disable hardware acceleration in your browser. It could be signaling another issue with your system though. If you run a game (something at least a bit GPU-intensive) while watching a Twitch stream does either lag or crash? Have you monitored your system temps under load before?

About 10 minutes ago I noticed that Brave is using over 3GB of RAM. It’s very off because it usually averages about 1.3 GB, which means it’s running at over twice what it typically does and I have fewer tabs open than usual. I checked Brave’s Task Manager and it said that GPU Process is using over a GB of RAM.
